Luke continues to do well in so many ways, just seven days from his rocky entrance into this world. Below are a few good pics from the last couple days.
The big prayer request at this point is that Luke would start to drink milk from a bottle rather than the not-so-glorious tube up his nose. They have tried a handful of times with the bottle and he tends to drink a sip or two, get excited and then, exhausted from the excitement, fall asleep. And really, which of us haven't done that? Over the course of this coming week, doctors are hoping to increase the amount of milk Luke receives as well as the amount he's able to handle from a bottle. Should he pull this off, he will only need to be weaned from the extra oxygen in his nose before being stable enough to come home.

Will pray for these intentions. He is adorable! I pray he will be able to come home with you soon.
ReplyDeletewhat a week! Our prayers are still with you and he seems to be fighting every day. I pray that he starts eating on his own ( and hey even I know about that energy thing right now) and he continues getting stronger. Some day you will laugh about that first few weeks he put you through! And thanks to you and your family for my prayers and flowers ( thanks Dan and Mary!)
ReplyDeleteMy premies went through the trouble with having to get nutrition through the tube in the nose. Our first premie,Edward, had a lot of trouble getting the suck, swallow, and breathe rhythm down. (Edward had a lot of trouble regulating his breathing, anyway.) In order for him to get enough nutrition, they added some kind of fat to my breast milk and gave it to him through the tube in his nose. When we were able to try it, before Edward got out of NICU, Edward actually did better breastfeeding than drinking through the bottle -- even though it was supposed to take more energy on his part to breastfeed. Maybe the comfort of breastfeeding helped him be motivated enough to keep drinking long enough to get the nutrition he needed.
ReplyDeleteWe'll pray that Luke will very soon be eating in the normal way. God bless all of your family!
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures!!! The first one looks like the two of you are sharing an inside joke. What a little love.
